Arnaut: What worries me the most is the huge Connection between Politics and the Judiciary

Members of the Temporary Investigation Commission of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PABiH) for determining the situation in the judicial institutions of BiH adopted at yesterday’s session a report on the work in which they assessed the current picture of the BiH judiciary as worrying, in which, as they pointed out, there is a huge connection between the judiciary and politics.

The chairman of this commission, Damir Arnaut, said at the press conference that this is the most comprehensive commission or parliamentary report with more than a thousand pages of articles.

”The report is entirely based on the testimonies of more than 30 witnesses who appeared before us at 35 sessions of the investigative commission, spoke about problems in the judiciary, gave concrete suggestions, and based on all that we adopted certain conclusions and gave 15 concrete recommendations,”Arnaut said.

What is most worrying, he added, is that there is a noticeable thread that permeates the testimonies about the huge link between politics and the judiciary, the huge conflict of interest in the highest judicial positions, malversations such as abuse, ie complete non-use of the case management system for courts and prosecutors’ offices (CMS), and lack of other institutional mechanisms.

Arnaut also conveyed the statement that a huge percentage of people in the judicial community are honest, but that they also noticed admixtures of conformism. He added that the investigation commission concluded that the relationship between the judiciary and the media was extremely low and that the judiciary did not use media knowledge as much as it should, especially considering that media stories often result in revelations of corrupt scandals.

Members of the Investigative Commission for Justice Dragan Mektic and Branislav Borenovic pointed out the good cooperation in the work of the members of the commission, which, as they emphasized, can be described in four words – persistence, consistency, commitment, and responsibility.

”The report is now going to the House of Representatives for adoption and given the fact that it was adopted unanimously today and that the parties that adopted it have a majority in the House of Representatives, I expect its adoption. The Investigation Commission continues its work and we will insist on promoting this report and implementing the recommendations,” Arnaut concluded yesterday, Federalna writes.
