During the commemoration of the anniversary of Operation “Storm” (”Oluja”) in Prijedor, which was attended by officials of Serbia and the Republika Srpska (RS) entity, a photo that was taken in Zepa in 1995 appeared on one of the panels.
The President of the RS Entity Milorad Dodik published a photo from the commemoration of the anniversary of Operation”Storm” in Prijedor on his official Twitter account.
The photo of the woman with children that was behind Dodik was actually taken in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). Agence France-Presse (AFP) photographer Joel Robine took a picture of Sabina Mujkic, a woman who was expelled from Zepa along with thousands of other Bosniaks on July 27th, 1995.
Sabina Mujkic’s daughter also confirmed this on her Facebook profile, the girl who is in her mother’s arms in the photo.
In previous years, portals in Serbia used this photo as an illustration for posts related to Operation “Storm”.
On Friday, August 4th, a meeting was held in Prijedor with the aim of remembering the Serbian victims of Operation “Storm”, and Milorad Dodik, Aleksandar Vucic, Patriarch Porfirije, and a girl who survived Operation “Storm” at the age of eight spoke at the commemoration. While Dodik was speaking, behind himthere was a photograph showing the suffering and persecution of Bosniaks in Zepa.
The very choice of Prijedor to mark the anniversary of Operation “Storm”, a place where 5.209 Bosniaks and Croats were killed, and where complete ethnic cleansing was carried out, was perceived by many as a provocation, and this omission will most certainly cause additional mistrust, primarily among returnees, towards the authorities of the RS entity, Klix.ba reports.
