Atheism in B&H on the rise, Establishment of the first public Association soon?

Atheism Association metro-portal.hrAtheism is the absence of belief in deities, while atheists or people who do not believe in God are probably the most significant silent minority in the developed world.

According to data from 1991, the Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina had 5.7 percent of atheists, while data from the census in 2013 are, unfortunately, not available yet.

Atheists in B&H do not have an organization which would gather them, and it is all about sharing opinions on social networks and informal meetings. However, it seems that everything will change soon.

The like-minded who believe that their voice must be hard apart from Facebook are currently working on founding the first association of atheists in B&H which would be called Atheos Bosnae.

“Understanding atheism is a slow process. I am not so convinced that the association will have a great impact, but maybe I am wrong. For now, we have somehow altered the public understanding of the term atheism via Facebook and web portals. There is an increasing number of people who are no longer ashamed to speak out in public,” said Emir Dervišević, one of the founders of the association.
