After the fire at the Uborak landfill in Mostar was contained on Tuesday, a new fire broke out today at the nearby landfill for old car tires, which is located right next to the municipal waste landfill, which is why the evacuation of the population from the immediate vicinity was initiated.

All the available forces of the Mostar firefighters are on the ground, and air-tractors provide assistance in extinguishing the fire from the air.

The mayor of Mostar, Mario Kordić, said after the meeting of the Crisis Staff that it is suspected that the new fire was set, pointing out that the location of the tires has no contact with the earlier fire.

According to him, the surrounding houses are threatened, which is why the evacuation of the population from the immediate vicinity of the fire was ordered.

Kordić stated that there are doubts that the first fire was also arson, given the information from the field about the unauthorized movement of certain persons around the landfill.

The MUP was also informed about everything, and the involvement of the prosecutor’s office was initiated through the city headquarters of civil protection.
