museumLocal celebration of the awards for employees and activists of the National Museum, winners of the prestigious Grand Prix in 2016 for cultural heritage, which is given jointly by the European Commission and Europa Nostra, was held yesterday in the National Museum in Sarajevo.

The National Museum of BiH was awarded in the category Dedication to work. The reward is significant and they will receive 10,000 EUR.

Aida Kalender, program director of the NGO “Akcija” emphasized that she is very happy that Europa Nostra decided to celebrate one of the awards of “Europa Nostra in 2016” jointly received by the employees of the National Museum in BiH and activists of the NGO “Akcija” in Sarajevo.

Last year, the National Museum launched a big campaign, “I am a museum.” During the 45 days, the museum was visited by around 5,000 people from all over BiH and the region.

The Secretary General of Europa Nostra Sneska Quaedvlieg-Mihailovic stated that this is the most important European award in the field of cultural heritage and Europa Nostra jury was impressed by the enthusiasm and dedication of employees of the National Museum in Sarajevo, who never gave up and became “angels’ guardians of the museum,” in very difficult circumstances.

According to her, the campaign was creative, positive, and that is what is the most important.
