Banja Luka Mountaineers wikimedia.orgYesterday, in the city administration of Banja Luka, a reception was organized for the members of the Mountaineering-Alpine club: “Samit” – Miroslav Bundalo and Miroslav Trivić. The reception was organized on the occasion of their departure for an expedition to conquer the highest peak in North America – McKinley (6,194 meters).

The Mayor of Banja Luka, Slobodan Gavranović, wished the alpinists a safe journey and a successful expedition to Alaska.

“The city of Banja Luka has supported all of their previous endeavors on climbing the highest peaks in the world, and so will be now. We expect them to successfully complete this expedition as well, and to raise our city flag at McKinley”, said Gavranović.

He added that following the completion of the expedition, the members of the “Samit” will be actively involved in other projects in the city in connection with spatial development of tourist destinations.

Trivić said that the expedition team is to begin the journey on June 9th, and that the expedition on McKinley will certainly be the toughest so far, taking into consideration the severe weather conditions prevailing there.

He stated that the temperature at the highest peak of North America is around minus 50 degrees, and that the warmest temperature in the past two days was only minus 37 degrees.

Trivić and Bundalo have so far conquered the highest peaks of Europe, Africa and South America. The McKinley expedition is expected to last for 20 days.
