Barbados officially recognized Palestine as a State

Barbados has announced its decision to officially recognize Palestine as a state, becoming the 11th member of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to do so.

“How can we say we want a two-state solution if we don’t recognize Palestine as a state,” Foreign Secretary Kerry Symonds said.

He added that the decision does not affect Barbados’ relations with Israel.

He emphasized that the island state has always argued in the UN that there should be a two-state solution.

He, however, criticized the fact that Barbados has never recognized Palestine until now.

“I think this is a mistake we have been making for years. And now we have formally contacted the State of Palestine to signal our intention to formally recognize them as a state,” he added, AA writes.
