Becirovic-Cassis: OSCE remains dedicated to preserving Peace and Stability in BiH and the Region

The member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Bećirović, spoke today with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation and the Chairman of the OSCE, Ignazija Cassis, as part of his visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bećirović pointed out that the Swiss Confederation, taking over the chairmanship of the OSCE for the third time in an extremely complex geopolitical moment, shows responsibility and readiness to work on strengthening the Helsinki principles, inclusive multilateral diplomacy, democracy, rule of law and protection of human rights.

Bećirović pointed out that the principles of the Helsinki Final Act, such as respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, inviolability of borders and peaceful settlement of disputes, should remain the basis of the European security architecture and that without their consistent application there is no stability in Europe.

A member of the BiH Presidency warned against repeated attempts to undermine the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina by the former president of the RS entity and his associates.

He pointed out that any attempt at international lobbying aimed at breaking up the internationally recognized state of Bosnia and Herzegovina represents unacceptable and unconstitutional action, that is, action against peace and stability. He emphasized that the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina will continue to resolutely protect the constitutional order and the Dayton Peace Agreement, and that a principled and coordinated reaction of the international community is of great importance.

During the conversation, Bećirović reiterated the necessity of improving electoral integrity with the support of the OSCE and ODIHR. Commitment to the implementation of OSCE recommendations, including the introduction of biometric voter identification and optical scanners, was highlighted as an important step towards strengthening citizens’ trust in election processes.

Swiss Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the OSCE Cassis emphasized that he strongly supports the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He pointed out that full respect for the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the rule of law and institutional action is a key prerequisite for stability.

In this sense, he appealed to all those responsible to unblock funds for the acquisition of new technology as soon as possible, so that the election process would be free and transparent.

He confirmed the permanent commitment of the OSCE to the preservation of peace and security in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region, the Cabinet of BiH Presidency member Denis Bećirović announced.
