Becirovic: Prosecutor’s Office must not be a Tool in the Hands of those who want to destroy BiH

The member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Bećirović, on the occasion of the indictment against Ahmet Sejdić, Ferid Buljubasic and eleven other members of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina for allegedly committed war crimes, called on the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina to act legally, independently and professionally. The BiH Prosecutor’s Office must not be a tool in the hands of those who want to destroy the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, he said.

Bećirović emphasized that the Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina must urgently stop the “brutal attack on the country’s constitutional order”.

“We are in the most difficult situation since the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement, and the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina is not taking concrete steps to prosecute those who destroy the constitutional order of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Why has no one been prosecuted to date? Instead of prosecuting those who destroy the state, the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina is pursuing heroes defense of Goražde,” Bećirović pointed out.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the selective approach of the BiH Prosecutor’s Office in the process of indicting persons suspected of committing war crimes, Bećirović reminded that the Army of Republika Srpska killed 120 and wounded 428 children during the three and a half year siege of Goražde. 2,000 civilians were killed.

“Therefore, the decision of the BiH Prosecutor’s Office to indict those who defended civilians and children is an insult to all citizens of this country. No one has yet been held accountable for those crimes. Although there is an “A” list that the Hague Tribunal based on the Rome Agreement and the Rules of the Road submitted to the BiH judiciary, the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina still ignores it for reasons unknown to us,” adds Bećirović.

“By filing charges against defenders who legally defended the internationally recognized state of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the BiH Prosecutor’s Office directly and (un)consciously influences the character of the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina in a revisionist way. The actions of the BiH Prosecutor’s Office are directed against those who, in accordance with international national law, they defended, are contrary to both human and legal logic,” announced the Cabinet of BiH Presidency member Denis Bećirović.
