Becirovic Warned The French Ambassador: An Attempt Is Being Made To Militarize The Police In RS

Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Denis Becirovic, met at the headquarters of the United Nations (UN) in New York with the Ambassador of the Republic of France to the UN, Jerome Bonnafont. The meeting was also attended by the BiH ambassador to the UN, Zlatko Lagumdzija.

Becirovic expressed his gratitude to France for its continuous support to BiH at the UN, especially in the Security Council, emphasizing the importance of the engagement of international partners in preserving peace and stability in the country. The interlocutors exchanged views on future activities within the Security Council, agreeing on the need to take concrete steps to protect the constitutional order and regional security.

Special attention was given to the importance of marking the International Day of Remembrance for the Genocide in Srebrenica. Becirovic thanked France and President Emmanuel Macron for their support in adopting the Resolution on this day at the UN General Assembly, assessing it as confirmation of the friendly relations between the two countries.

The conversation also highlighted concerns about the current security situation in BiH, particularly the actions of the authorities of the Republika Srpska (RS) entity, which, according to Becirovic, represent an attack on the constitutional order and the Dayton Peace Agreement. As a particularly dangerous move, he mentioned the adoption of the draft law introducing a reserve police force in the RS, which he assessed as a form of militarization that threatens further destabilization.

Ambassador Bonnafont reiterated that France firmly stands behind the European and Euro-Atlantic path of BiH. He confirmed his support for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of BiH and emphasized the importance of continuing joint efforts to strengthen democratic institutions and the rule of law.
