Alexander Lukashenko, the president of Belarus, ordered the reinforcement of the grouping of forces in the tactical area of Gomel and Mozyr, which borders Ukraine’s Kyiv and Chernihiv regions.
The information was published by the Belarusian state news agency BelTA, citing Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin.
“The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces (Lukashenko) has given instructions to strengthen the grouping of forces in the tactical area of Gomel and Mozya. Special operations forces, ground forces and missile units, in particular the multi-barrel Polonez and Iskander missile systems, have been tasked to move to the default area”, according to Khrenin’s statement.
Earlier, Lukashenko claimed that “several targets coming from Ukraine” were shot down over Belarus.
The announcement of the movement of the Belarusian army to the border with Ukraine comes at the moment when Ukrainian forces made inroads into the Kursk area on the territory of Russia.
Belarus has allowed Russia to use its territory to attack Ukraine, but has not itself deployed troops on Ukrainian territory.
