B&H and Croatia to make joint Project about Peljesac bridge soon?

peljeski_mostBosnia and Herzegovina is cooperating with Croatia in an analysis of the project for the construction of the Peljesac bridge and it is most likely that we will arrive at a mutually acceptable solution taking into account the interests of both countries, Bosnian Transport and Communications Minister Slavko Matanovic said in an interview with Monday’s issue of the Sarajevo daily Oslobodjenje.

He said that he and Croatia’s Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure Sinisa Hajdas Doncic had discussed forming a joint commission to work on the application of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and that this was particularly important for Bosnia and Herzegovina because it insists that the bridge should not hamper access to ships passing through Neum waters.

“We have come across understanding and hope that we will establish that commission soon,” Matanovic said.

He added that it was important to approach the matter based on arguments to avoid any possible politicising or sensationalism.

Matanovic underscored that Croatia undoubtedly had the right to connect its territory but that Bosnia and Herzegovina also had the right as a maritime country to have open access to the high seas.

“These two concepts do not necessarily exclude each other. On the contrary,” Matanovic concluded.
