The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković, said in Muscat today that Bosnia and Herzegovina and Oman share excellent political relations and that there is a willingness to improve bilateral relations through joint efforts, especially in the sphere of economic cooperation.

Konaković had separate meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi, and the Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology of the Sultanate of Oman, Said bin Hamood Al Mawali. It was emphasized that bilateral relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Oman are traditionally good, with no open issues, but that there is significant room for their further improvement in all areas, especially in the sphere of economic cooperation.

At the meeting with the Omani Minister of Foreign Affairs, Konaković informed his interlocutor about the current political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, reform processes and BiH’s path to the EU and NATO.

He expressed satisfaction with the stability and socio-economic prosperity of Oman, and emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina wants to develop all forms of bilateral and international cooperation with that country.

He invited the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Oman to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasizing the importance of exchanging visits of high-ranking officials as an opportunity to deepen cooperation and strengthen contacts between the business communities of the two countries.

The ministers agreed that political relations are very good, but that they are not accompanied by adequate economic cooperation, and expressed their readiness to invest additional efforts to improve this situation.

He recalled that this year Bosnia and Herzegovina introduced a temporary measure to abolish the visa regime for Omani citizens in the period from June 1 to September 30, with the aim of attracting a larger number of tourists from Oman, and expressed the expectation that cooperation in the field of tourism will be further improved in the coming period. During the meeting, contractual relations and cooperation on a multilateral level were also discussed.

Konaković and Omani Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology Said bin Hamood Al Mawali assessed that Bosnia and Herzegovina and Oman share numerous common interests, with special emphasis on the possibilities for improving economic cooperation.

In this context, it was emphasized that there are significant potentials that could contribute to the development of mutual relations and an increase in the volume of trade and investment between the two countries.

The ministers emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation in the field of transport infrastructure, logistics, digital connectivity and information technologies, bearing in mind that efficient transport and communication solutions represent a key prerequisite for accelerated economic growth and market connectivity.

It was assessed that Bosnia and Herzegovina can use the experience and resources of Oman in order to strengthen exports and attract investments, while Oman can recognize Bosnia and Herzegovina as a reliable partner and logistics hub for business in Europe, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH.
