The first-instance verdict against the former director of the Intelligence and Security Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Osman Mehmedagić, is scheduled for October 19.
The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina requested a sentence close to the legal maximum, and the defense requested an acquittal.
The prosecution stated in its closing statement that it proved the indictment, brought in December 2024, by hearing 28 witnesses, four experts and presenting material evidence.
According to the indictment, Mehmedagić served as the director of the OBA from 2019 to February 2023 without the required higher education.
Prosecutor Sanja Ljuboje Romić stated that his degree in economics from the Faculty of Business Studies in Banja Luka was annulled, and that, despite this, he continued to perform the function of director of OBA.
She stated that when the accused was asked to present his diploma, he submitted two other diplomas.
The Prosecution believes that Mehmedagić abused his position and made a profit of around 293,000 KM in the name of income and benefits, which is why the requested sentence is close to the legal maximum.
The defense claims that neither the existence of a criminal offense nor the direct intention of the accused has been proven, reports BIRN.
Defense attorney Nermin Muljalić said that the Prosecution did not prove the allegations in the indictment beyond a reasonable doubt and requested an acquittal.
