Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) is one of the countries with the lowest purchasing power on the European continent, but in terms of medicine prices, it follows the standard of countries that have far higher GDP per capita.
As if that was not enough, the prices of medicines in our country do not stop rising, and they become a luxury for the citizens, especially for pensioners, who even before the price increase had to set aside up to half of their pension for certain therapies. Parents of children with epilepsy have recently raised their voices because the epilepsy medicine “diazepam enema” is 120 percent more expensive.
They are asking for help
Parents manage in many ways, and this medicine is just one of those that have become more expensive in the recent period. The president of the Association ”Dajte nam sansu”, Ines Kavalec, told that the prices differ from pharmacy to pharmacy.
”Pharmacies must standardize the price. This “enema” should be free to every parent,” Kavalec stressed.
Hanka Gegic is the mother of a ten-year-old girl suffering from epilepsy, and she is currently in hospital due to pneumonia. She is surprised by the prices of medicines and drops, but also by the lack of understanding to make something necessary for life more affordable.
Margin reduction
The association “Misli dobro” has launched an initiative to amend the Rulebook on the method of setting the prices of medicines in BiH. They mentioned that they hope that when changing the regulations related to the amount of wholesale and retail margin on medicines, the institutions will be guided by the interests of citizens, and not the personal and interests of various groups, Avaz writes.
