BiH Foreign Minister meets President of the Republic of Singapore

The Deputy Chairperson of the Council of Ministers and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bisera Turkovic, met on August 19, 2022, with the President of the Republic of Singapore, Halimah Yacob.

As part of the working visit, and on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Singapore’s recognition of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Minister Turkovic also held meetings with other high officials of this country.

At the meeting with President Yacob, Minister Turkovic pointed out that our countries are multi-ethnic and multi-religious, and that it is important to further strengthen bilateral relations, to transfer positive experiences and practices to Bosnia and Herzegovina, considering that Singapore is one of the most developed countries in the world.

The minister introduced the interlocutor to the potential of our country, the current challenges that our country is facing, highlighting the problem of non-acceptance of court verdicts, which leads to the denial of the genocide in Srebrenica and the glorification of war criminals.

President Yacob pointed out that our two countries have had friendly relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations on November 1, 1995. She stated that Bosnia and Herzegovina and Singapore are multicultural countries, and emphasized the importance of building cohesive societies and protecting common spaces for everyone, regardless of race, language or religion.

The meeting also discussed the importance of economic development, cooperation in the field of education and the exchange of students and young people. Also, opinions were exchanged about the war in Ukraine and the consequences of the war in the whole world.

As part of her visit to Singapore, Minister Turkovic also met with the senior state minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of National Development, Sim Ann, who is also a member of the state parliament.

The importance of establishing bilateral consultations, during which areas of common interest will be defined, was emphasized, and the possibilities of cooperation in the areas of food production, strengthening of trade and dedicated industry were emphasized.

Minister Turkovic also held a meeting with the State Minister for the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, Member of the State Parliament Low Yen Ling.

Minister Turkovic emphasized the importance of strengthening trade exchange, and emphasized that there are numerous areas for Singaporean companies to invest in our country, noting the potential and advantages of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s markets, Klix.ba reports.
