Mostar Earth HourBy switching off the lights on the Old Bridge on Saturday night, Mostar joined thousands of cities around the world in a global campaign called “Earth Hour”.

It all started back in 2007 when the citizens of Sydney switched off the lights in their homes and business premises to raise a voice against the greatest threats of our time, the climate change caused by human activities.

This year’s activity of the World Environmental Fund (WWF) was carried out in almost 180 countries and 7000 cities, and by switching off the light on some of the world’s most famous tourist attractions such as the Eiffel Tower, the skyscraper Taipei 101, the Empire State Building and Big Ben, they are drawing attention to problem of excessive use of Earth’s resources and giving their contribution to the fight against climate change.

In BiH, except for Mostar, the Earth Hour was also marked in Sarajevo, Doboj, Prijedor, Bihac, Zenica, Zvornik, Gorazde, Bugojno, Ljubuski and other cities.

Organizers said that one hour that we spend in the dark should be a reminder that we need to secure the sustainable future of our planet.

The message that we want to send is that each individual can contribute to environmental protection with his personal example and action.
