Bosnia and Herzegovina officially opened an honorary consulate in Zadar on Friday, with the ceremony attended by BiH Foreign Minister Elmedin Konaković and Croatian Foreign and European Affairs Minister Gordan Grlić Radman.

Snježana Kopruner was appointed as the first honorary consul of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Zadar.

Grlić Radman said that the opening of the honorary consulate confirms the deep connection and mutual trust that Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia have continuously built through political, economic and human cooperation.

“The Croatian government, led by President Andrej Plenković, remains its strongest and most vocal advocate for Bosnia and Herzegovina on its Euro-Atlantic path. We believe that a stable, functional and European-oriented Bosnia and Herzegovina is in the interest of all its peoples and citizens, as well as the entire Western Balkans,” said Grlić Radman.

He added that BiH’s European perspective represents a framework for long-term security, economic development and the rule of law, and stressed that Croatia will continue to provide full political, diplomatic and expert support to this process.

“Lasting stability can only be built through open dialogue, mutual respect and full equality of the three constituent nations, which is guaranteed by the Dayton-Paris Peace Agreement,” said the Croatian minister.

He also emphasized the importance of continuing the development of joint infrastructure, energy and transport projects that further connect the two countries and strengthen the resilience of the entire region.

“The Republic of Croatia will continue to build relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina based on the principles of partnership and common European values,” Grlić Radman concluded.

The head of BiH diplomacy, Konaković, expressed his great satisfaction with the opening of the consulate, reminding that Croatia is the most important foreign trade partner of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the country with which it shares the longest border.

He praised the engagement of Consul Kopruner and announced that BiH plans to open two more honorary consulates in Croatia in the future.
