Željko Komšić, a member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, believes that the verdict against former top Serbian security officials, Jovica Stanišić and Franko Simatović before the Hague Tribunal, will remain a dead letter if the international community awards the “Serbian world” project.
“The verdict against Stanišić and Simatović is the final legal condemnation of the ‘Greater Serbia’ project, which was constructed and then implemented by the intelligence structures of neighboring Serbia in the 1990s, as well as the verdict on the current project of the so-called “Serbian world”, which is the current project of intelligence and political structures of Serbia.
There is no discontinuity between those two structures, and this should be taken into account when considering the current political situation in the Western Balkans, where peace clearly hangs in the balance and is most endangered by those who so often talk about the need to preserve peace, about their efforts in this regard,” pointed out Komšić.
“When you look at who is talking about it, you get the impression that there are no greater peacemakers among the advocates of the “Serbian world”. But that is not so.
Certain parts of the international community know that this is not the case, and they look favorably on the “Serbian world” project, which is just a continuation of the “Greater Serbia” project.
When I say benevolently, I mean their strategic decision to satisfy these same great-state aspirations that were definitively and finally declared criminal over the back of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Recently, we have been witnessing this benevolence almost with disbelief,” warns Komšić.
He still hopes, he added, that precisely those parts of the international community, in the future development of political relations in the Western Balkans, will not resort to essentially, in a political sense, rewarding the project that was condemned by the final verdict to Stanišić and Simatović.
Otherwise, this verdict will remain just a dead letter, concluded a member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić.
