The Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nenad Nešić, stressed the contribution of our country and the countries of the region in preserving collective European security, BHRT reports.
Nešić said this at the Berlin Process ministerial conference in Tirana, where regional interior ministers and representatives of the European Union discuss solutions to common security challenges.
“Nowhere more than in the security sector does the Western Balkans show its potential to be part of the common space of the European Union and that it deserves its place in the European Union. Security is the key to the stability of states, economy, development and interconnection. So allow me to strongly support those in the EU who see that the speed of our accession is in the interest of the EU itself. Allow me to criticize those who would prolong our path indefinitely, make it more difficult and unattainable”, said Nešić.
He added that cyber security, migration and organized crime know no borders, where criminal groups exert a very harmful influence on the economy and economic development, and that therefore a strong, coordinated and joint regional and European response is needed. Speaking about the contribution of the BiH Ministry of Security, Nešić highlighted the evident progress in the process of strengthening integrated border management, which is also shown by the reports of the European Commission on BiH’s progress in this area.
In addition to infrastructure improvements, a system of automatic license plate reading and video surveillance was established at the border crossings, which improved border checks and border surveillance.
“I hope that the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina will have a successful start and end of negotiations with FRONTEX. The Ministry of Security is determined to be the locomotive of European integration of the Council of Ministers. We successfully completed EUROPOL, we can also complete FRONTEX. I am asking the EU for understanding so that they do not miss the chance to further motivate BiH on the European path”, said Nešić.
In his address, Nešić sent his last message to the representatives from the European Union. “The security sector of the Western Balkans does not and does not seek to be spared, aware of its responsibility in the collective security of the European Union. The European Union will not and cannot be complete until the last stone of the Western Balkans is in it. The certainty that the process of our integration will not last the lifetime of one generation is the only sure guarantee of prosperity and peace in the Balkans.
It is the only instrument to remove borders and promote peace between us in the near future. Just like a few decades earlier among the big countries of Europe after the Second World War. Let’s not miss this opportunity”, said Nešić.
