BiH spends 32 Million BAM on Water Imports in only Two Months

Unlike billions of people in the world, citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) are lucky to live in a country rich in water. There are more than 3,000 sources of drinking water in the Federation of BiH (FBiH) alone.

But, in addition to all that, in just the first two months of this year, BiH imported water worth almost 32 million BAM. For that money, more than 25 million liters of water were imported.

Big difference

According to data from the Indirect Taxation Authority (ITA) BiH, we imported the most water from Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, and Italy.

On the other hand, when it comes to export, it is worth 5.4 million BAM, and the most water was exported to Croatia, followed by Turkey. In total, 11.8 million liters of water were exported.

These data once again show the absurd situation in BiH. The difference between the import and export of water is increasing every year in favor of the import.

In addition, consumer awareness is at an extremely low level, while domestic companies do not invest money in branding and marketing in the amount in which their competitors do.

A bigger figure

In 2021, we imported 193 million liters of water, worth 184 million BAM, while in 2022, we imported water worth 227 million BAM, totaling 209 million liters.

Judging by current indicators, it is quite certain that last year’s figure could be exceeded at the end of this year.

Experts explain this trend of excessive water imports by saying that the free market, a constant marketing campaign on which well-known brands allocate large sums of money, facilitates a better placement of imported water on the domestic market, Avaz reports.
