In a little over 15 days Bosnia and Herzegovina translated the questionnaire sent by the European Commission and delivered to BiH on December 9 by the Commissionaire for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn.
Directorate for European Integration of BiH started translating the questionnaire in mid-December and the document’s purpose is to gather information requested by the European Commission from the Council of Ministers of BiH with the aim of preparing an Opinion about the request submitted by BiH for membership in the EU.
In total, 3.242 questions were translated and the translation was conducted part by part at seminars organized by the Directorate for European Integration of BiH with relevant institutions.
After the translation and proofreading, the questionnaire will be answered and then the answers will be proofread, together with translations and annexes. Eventually, the answers will be submitted to the European Commission.
The Questionnaire contains a list of questions that follow the structure of criteria for membership in the EU and the aim is to make a comprehensive opinion about political, legal, social, economic, and administrative system of the country that applied for membership.
The Questionnaire, which was delivered on December 9, is an official document with which the EU evaluates the readiness of BiH to launch the accession process. In other words, the EU gains an insight into the degree of achieved reforms and compliance of the domestic legislature with European acquis in all areas. BiH submitted a request for membership in the EU in February 2016.
