Kotor-Varoš is one of rare municipalities in BiH that does not deal with unemployment issues. Namely, enterprises from this municipality make boots for militaries of France, Jordan, Israel, and a number of operations with global brands Adidas and Nike has also increased.
Although looking plain, those are military, police and firefighting boots worn by French soldiers, British Special Forces, gendarmerie of Serbia.
Boots for the army of France and the Great Britain are being made in Kotor-Varoš at a price of around 180 EUR. Dermal also makes boots for the Armed Forces of BiH, but at a much lower price – 50 EUR. They are currently making 20.000 pairs of military boots only for the Armed Forces of BiH.
Dermal employs 370 workers and the number of employed increases annually by around 70 new workers. Despite the expensive production materials, export ensures profit to this company. Kotor-Varoš has seven percent more employed people than before the war. Statistics show that 600 new workers have been employed in this municipality in 2015, which is an average of two workers in one day.
“According to the current census, we have 22.000 residents, before the war we had 38.000 residents and 4.000 employed residents. Now we have 22.000 residents and nearly 5.000 employed people,” said Radislav Petrušić, Head of the Department for Economy of Kotor-Varoš. The Municipality also possesses an acknowledgement for favorable business environment. The majority of employed people are in private sector, textile and footwear industry, as well as in wood processing, and the 2.5 employees per one senior are an exception from the BiH average.
