A border policeman whose initials are A.M. was arrested in Foča in the “Godfather” operation, which refers to the prosecution of criminal acts of corruption, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Srpska announced.

After the criminal investigation, he will be handed over to the acting prosecutor of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Action “The Godfather” was carried out by members of the Directorate for Organized and Serious Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republika Srpska in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH announced earlier that searches were carried out in the area of Foča, Sarajevo and other cities as part of the investigation related to corrupt criminal acts.

As clarified by the Prosecutor’s Office, one of the suspects, an active police officer in the BiH Border Police, is suspected of falsely certifying documents for the alleged crossing of the border for illegal financial gain to members of a criminal organization in order to provide them with an alibi during the commission of crimes.

Under investigation are persons suspected of organized crime, connected with international smuggling and distribution of large quantities of drugs on the illegal drug market.
