monumentCity Council gave consent for construction of a monument for Bosnian special forces members in the park next to the Secondary Gymnasium.

Initiative for the construction of the monument was submitted by the Veterans’ Association – Veterans of the Police Detachment “Bosna” of the Sarajevo Canton.

A councilor and member of the Commission for Monuments Velija Katica said that this detachment deserved to get a monument, given that it played an important role in the defense of Sarajevo and BiH.

“The monument will be of great interest for Sarajevo. Veterans’ Association will finance the project with their funds, so no additional funds were demanded from the City,” Katica said.

Construction of the monument will cost 173.000 BAM. The monument will be built by the sculptor Nebojša Šerić Šoba, who gave up on his fee. According to his conceptual design, a team of BiH special forces members is on a destroyed enemy tank, celebrating victory. Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton donated a tank that will be used for the creation of this monument.

The police detachment “Bosna” had 1.350 members in total. Several hundreds of them were wounded, and 81 were killed.
