How did the British Embassy react to the Analysis by Foreign Affairs?

Edward FergusonAmerican magazine Foreign Affairs published an analysis of the political situation in the countries of the former Yugoslavia, and the text caused numerous reactions in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Embassy of Great Britain in Sarajevo also commented on this analysis.

Namely, author of the text is Timothy Less, the former employee of the British Consulate in Banja Luka. According to the British Ambassador to BiH Edward Ferguson, Less’s attitudes have nothing to do with the attitudes of the UK Government.

“These are the attitudes of a former employee who does not work for the UK Government anymore. This analysis full of deficiencies does not represent the attitudes of the UK Government in any way. The United Kingdom is strongly committed to sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of BiH, as well as of other countries in the region. There is no reshaping of borders in the Balkans,” said Ferguson.

According to Less, the secession of those territories from the existing countries and linking with parent states should be enabled, perhaps in the form of autonomous regions at first. “Croatian entity” in BiH would merge with Croatia; Republika Srpska and Northern Kosovo with Serbia, Preševska dolina, Western Macedonia and the majority of Kosovo with Albania. Meanwhile, Montenegro, which could lose the Albanian enclave, could remain independent or merge with the expanded Serbia.
