The Mayor of Canadian Winsdor, Drew Dilkens, declared July 11, 2022, the Day of Remembrance of the Srebrenica Genocide.

Windsor is the first city in the world to make a monument to the victims of the Srebrenica genocide.

Brian Masse, a member of the Canadian Parliament and a long-term sponsor of all Canadian events in the culture of remembering the genocide in Srebrenica, was born in Windsor, the Institute of Genocide Research Canada IGK announced.

Canada began officially recognizing the genocide in BiH after the Parliament adopted a Resolution in 2010 declaring July 11 as the Day of Remembrance for the victims of genocide. The victims of the genocide in Srebrenica and BiH have not been forgotten in Canada. The Canadian government has continuously shown sensitivity and reverence for the victims of genocide in BiH in a special way.

This is confirmed by two resolutions of the Canadian Parliament on the Srebrenica genocide, an exhibition on the Srebrenica genocide at the Canadian Museum of Human Rights, one of the world’s most prestigious museum institutions, the study of genocide in BiH in Canadian schools, the unveiling of monuments to Srebrenica genocide victims in Windsor, a commemorative memorial in North America, the distribution of the Srebrenica Flower, a symbol of genocide, to all members of the Canadian Parliament, a Canadian Parliament petition for criminal sanctions against Srebrenica genocide deniers in Canada and the proclamation of July 11 as Srebrenica Genocide Remembrance Day in Hamilton and Windsor.

Emir Ramic, director of the Genocide Research Institute of Canada, thanked Brian Masse and Drew Dilkens for Canada’s continued contribution to the culture of remembrance of the Srebrenica genocide, the statement said.
