The Chairman of BiH’s Presidency Milorad Dodik met with Pope Francis in the Vatican Apostolic Palace on Friday afternoon and during a cordial conversation, the parties focused on their good bilateral relations as well as on the presence of the Catholic community in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

It was noted that they also talked about the country’s situation and the economic and social challenges it faces.

“Further, there is the need to guarantee an effective parity of constituent peoples and their reconciliation is also underlined, as well as the importance of dialogue and mutual respect in the institutional field to overcome divisions and attain peace,”was stated in the official statement.

The attention was put on issues of mutual interest from the international sphere, with a special reference to the prospect of EU enlargement to the Western Balkans.

During the meeting with Dodik gave a present of the icon of Saint Sava, while Pope Francis gave a picture of people who were giving hands to each other, followed by the message of the Day of Peace 2019, and a joint statement by Pope Francis in February signed with the great imam of the mosque Al-Azhar, Ahmad Al-Tayyib.
