In the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, a regular working meeting was held between Acting Chief Prosecutor Milanko Kajganic and officials from the Special Department for War Crimes, and the IRMCT Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz and his associates.

The meeting was held as part of regular co-operation activities between the Prosecutor’s Offices, in a joint effort to combat impunity for war crimes.

Acting Chief Prosecutor Kajganic informed his colleagues from the OTP in The Hague about the activities carried out by the Special Department for War Crimes and the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, the results achieved in 2021 and 2022, as well as about the action plan for achieving better results in prosecuting war crimes cases in 2022.

The meeting emphasised the importance of regional co-operation of Prosecutor’s Offices in the criminal prosecution of war crimes cases, which is being supported by Prosecutor Brammertz and which is crucial for the prosecution of a number of cases.

Furthermore, the officials of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH and its Special Department for War Crimes informed the representatives of the IRMCT OTP about the work and activities on cases that were at certain procedural stages in the ICTY and the IRMCT, such as those with the Standard Code “A”, and the results in the field of transfer of less complex cases from the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH to respective Prosecutor’s Offices in both BiH entities and the Brčko District of BiH were also presented.

Chief Prosecutor Brammertz expressed his support for the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH and for the continuation of its activities in the fight against impunity for war crimes. In addition, he stressed the importance of regional cooperation so that better results could be achieved in prosecuting war crimes cases through joint efforts.

The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH and the IRMCT OTP achieve almost daily cooperation and communication in a joint mission, which is the detection, prosecution and punishment of war crimes committed in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

During the visit, Chief Prosecutor Brammertz also visited the new premises of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH.
