kindergartenProgram of healthy eating has been carried out in kindergarten “Cika Jova Zmaj” in Foca for several years now. Cakes, candies and snacks were replaced by fruit and vagies, pates and sausages were thrown from meals, and fresh vegetables, while fish and other healthy food have been introduced instead.

They received the recognition “Preschool institution friend of proper nutrition” for successfully introduced program of healthy eating as the crown of initiative carried out in preschools in five communities in the RS, which is supported by the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and UNICEF.

“Children were growing vegetables through the program, making fruits and vegetables from plasticine, drawing, and all of this was transferred on us, parents, as well as through workshops that we attended, so we have a lot healthier menu now at home as well. My daughter Tara used to eat hot dogs for breakfast, and now I cannot remember when was the last time we bought them,” said Danka, one of the parents.

Zora Savic said that her daughter Dorothea now goes to primary school, but she brought healthy habits from kindergarten:

“She still wants fruit for a snack, usually a banana or an apple. She never liked fruits and vegetables, and when she came one day from the kindergarten and asked “if there was any fruit to eat”, we were positively shocked. Besides eating programs, they have been working on a lot of new and useful stuff, for example she comes home and tells us about recycling,” said Zora.
