1000_1478109643burkina-faso-pomoc-iz-bih-211216_1Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country which cannot find a way out of the deep economic and political crisis for years now. However, that is not an obstacle for its citizens to recognize the suffering of other people and to help them.

A container of humanitarian aid for the population, especially children, in Burkina Faso was sent couple of days ago from Klokotnica, a small settlement in the Municipality of Doboj Istok. This is not the first time that citizens from this part of BiH help residents of one of the most impoverished countries of the world.

“For the third consecutive year we are sending scholarships and aid for children in Burkina Faso. The scholarship amounts to 15 EUR for one child,” explained Elmedin Škrebo, manager of the Sector for Development and Cooperation of the humanitarian organization MFS – Emmaus in Klokotnica.

With the help of the Majlis of Islamic Community from Srebrenik and several elementary schools, scholarships were collected for almost 500 students of elementary schools in two villages in Burkina Faso. The idea emerged several years ago when Škrebo visited the branch of MFS – Emmaus in Burkina Faso.

“It is difficult to even imagine the conditions in which those people live. Education, health care and all other forms of social care are on minimal level and if we say that some western countries, such as Germany or France, are some hundred years ahead of BiH in terms of development, then BiH is two hundred years ahead of Burkina Faso and some other African countries which are among the most impoverished countries in the world,” said Škrebo.

Apart from scholarships, humanitarian aid will also be sent in a container with the capacity of 24 tons. Majority of that was prepared by children from several local elementary schools.

“In addition to around 1.000 gift boxes, there is also food for kitchens in two elementary schools where we support the children with our scholarships. We are also sending certain agricultural tools for two villages and wire fence, so that they can protect their crops from wild animals,” said Škrebo. Citizens from Tuzla, Srebrenik and Gračanica have also been collecting clothes and hygiene supplies for months, and that will also be sent to Burkina Faso.

Despite being rich with gold and cotton, Burkina Faso is one of the most impoverished countries of the world and one of the countries with the lowest average of children who attend elementary school. Namely, majority of children in that West African country are being exploited in mines, so instead of pens they hold shovels in their hands. Humble aid from BiH will ensure education and salvation from mines for at least 500 children during the next year and the campaign will certainly continue.
