Children with Lights mark the arrival of Ramadan

zenicaThe holy month of Ramadan arrived in Bosnia and Herzegovina last night, with the Maghrib prayer. The youngest attendees of maktab classes in Zenica symbolically marked the arrival of Ramadan.

With lanterns in their hands, they paraded through the city center to the Čaršijska mosque in Zenica, where they waited for the call for Maghrib prayer which marked the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan.

Yesterday’s event was a idea by the informal citizens’ group “Mothers of Zenica”, the jemaat Trgovišće and the Čaršijska mosque in Zenica, with the aim of making this a memory for the youth of Zenica.

“Our intention was to bring Ramadan closer to children and make a nice memory of their childhood. There was no such thing when we were children, we did not even know when the Ramadan came, and now we want at least our children to have nice memories,” said a mother, Elma Fetić-Čehajić.

Yesterday’s event in the center of Zenica caused sympathy of the fellow citizens who captured the parade of children with their mobile phones. Nermana Družić-Rizvanović said that yesterday’s parade, organized for the first time, was aimed at sending a message to all citizens.

“We wanted to send a message to our fellow citizens that Ramadan is coming, together with its magic. That every one of them can find a way, that there is light and that they just need to find it like these kids did tonight,” said Družić-Rizvanović.

After the countdown until the call for Maghrib prayer, the children headed towards the jemaat Trgovišće where they continued socializing until the first Tarawih prayer of this Ramadan.
