China sends Warning: “If War is what the US wants, we are ready”

After Donald Trump imposed tariffs on China, the Chinese embassy in the United States spoke out.

The Chinese embassy in the US has responded to the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration over the fentanyl issue. In a statement released on X, the embassy stressed that the United States should engage in equal consultations with China to resolve the issue.

“If the US really wants to solve the fentanyl issue, then the right thing to do is to consult with China treating each other as equals. If war is what the US wants, whether it is a tariff war, a trade war or any other kind of war, we are ready to fight to the end,” the embassy said in a statement.

China’s Foreign Ministry dismissed the fentanyl issue as a justification for increasing tariffs on Chinese imports. The spokesperson of the ministry stated that China’s actions to protect its rights and interests are legitimate and necessary, writes The Economic Times.

“The United States, and no one else, is responsible for the fentanyl crisis. In the spirit of humanity and goodwill toward the American people, we have taken steps to help the United States address this issue. Rather than recognizing our efforts, the United States has sought to smear and blame China and is seeking to pressure and blackmail China by increasing tariffs. They are punishing us for helping them. This will not solve the United States’ problem and will undermine our dialogue and cooperation on counternarcotics,” the statement added.

The Trump administration on Tuesday imposed an additional 10 percent tariff on Chinese goods, adding 10 percent to the existing one. Similar tariffs have also been applied to imports from Canada and Mexico over the same issue. The White House justifies the increase by citing the problem of continued smuggling of Chinese-made fentanyl into the United States.
