TE GackoBy the end of the year will start works on the construction of new thermal power plant in Gacko. The construction is fully funded by the Bank of China, which will soon have to decide which of three of their companies should get a job.

The works are estimated at 500-600 million EUR, and it is anticipated to last 4 years. At the construction site will be engaged 1,000 workers, of which 400 from the RS,” said Srdjan Milovic, director of TA Gacko.

Today’s power plant in Gacko was constructed in the eighties, with an installed capacity of 350 megawatts. It produces 30 % of the energy in the RS. The new TPP needs to replace the old one in five years and new technologies will bring cleaner air and a healthier environment to citizens of Gacko.

The level of utilization of energy in the old TPP is 30 %, while new technologies bring the degree of utilization of 42 %, which is consistent with the highest energy and environmental standards. The degree of the energy efficiency of the new plant is 60 % higher than in the old power plant.

“Buk Bijela” and “Dubrovnik 2” on Trebjesa are hydro potentials for which there is a great interest of investors and the RS needs to engage in the construction of these power plants in its full capacity,” says Milovic. “Drina is also promising and if the energy sector joins with Serbia, it will be a strategic matter for the two countries. Of course, Bosna and Neretva provide great potential for producing electricity and it seems that finally, we have serious investors interested in the construction.”
