The ties between China and France are an example of peaceful coexistence and cooperation between countries with different systems, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Sunday after his visit to France to mark 60 years of mutual diplomatic relations.
The development of relations between the two countries brings “stability and positive energy to a turbulent world,” Xi’s words were reported by the Chinese state news agency Xinhua.
The Chinese president is visiting Europe for the first time in five years. He arrived in Paris on Sunday and is immediately meeting with the French Prime Minister.
In the continuation of his visit on Monday, he will meet with his French colleague Emmanuel Macron, who at the meeting intends to engage in commercial “reciprocity” and search for a solution to the war in Ukraine, given that the Chinese president continues to show support for Russia.
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will join the talks between Xi and Macron at the Elysee Palace on Monday.
The leader of the Asian superpower wanted this visit to Europe, the first since 2019, to respect diplomatic balance.
After a state visit to France, which has been begging him for a year to use its influence to “reason Russia”, Xi will travel from Wednesday to Friday to Serbia and Hungary, two countries that remain close to Moscow.
