In Garavice near Bihać, the 83rd anniversary of the crimes against Serbs, Jews and Roma will be marked today. During the summer of 1941, more than 12,000 civilians, mostly Serbs, were killed in this place.
Organized by the Committee of the Government of the Republika Srpska for nurturing the traditions of liberation wars, a memorial service was held and wreaths were laid, and a history lesson will be held, with the message that this crime should not be forgotten because of the innocent civilians killed.
At the beginning of the Second World War in 1941, the Ustashas killed 12,000 Serbian civilians in the town of Garavice, one of the largest killing grounds of the Serbian people in the Independent State of Croatia (NDH), and a large number of children were among the victims.
According to English intelligence data, between 14,000 and 14,500 people were killed in the wider area of Bihać.
