Chairman of the Commission Dubravko Lovrenović stated at the press conference today that in the past twelve years the Commission has issued 926 decisions, of which 779 positive and 147 negative ones.

Furthermore, they adopted a conclusion to include Novo Selo (Franz Josefsfeid) in Bijeljina in the List of Endangered Monuments, and there are 79 properties on the list at the moment.

The Commission also adopted amendments to decisions for Old Town Dubrovnik near Ilijaš and necropolis with stećci medieval tombstones in Kopošići in Ilijaš and it determined protection zone I and II at locality of Old Town Dubrovnik, based on ground and cadastre data, which includes the Old Town and its Varoš, that is, Podgrađe.

”In this area only research and conservation-restoration works are allowed and space is only used for educational and cultural purposes. Field for mining exploitation partly enters the protection zone, but according to decision on declaring this area a national monument further exploitation is not allowed,” explained Lovrenović.

Lovrenović emphasized that Necropolis with stećci medieval tombstones in Kopošići originally included 15 stećci, and new findings and research led to conclusion that there are 34 medieval tombstones at that locality and amendments were issued to the Decision on this necropolis which defines new protection zone.

Commission for Preservation of National Monuments, with written support of Stolac municipality, filed an application for helenistic city of Daorson for “CyArk 500 Challenge”. Aim of this project is to preserve selected localities of cultural heritage in digital form for the future generations.

CyArk Advisory Council issued a decision to make Daorson one of the first monuments to be included in the CyArk 500 Challenge project.

“CyArk 500 Challenge” is a program launched by a non-profit organization CyArk to digitally preserve the selected 500 localities of cultural heritage by using new technologies in preparing free 3D on-line library of the world cultural heritage.

”It is expected for the entire work to be completed within the planned deadline, until January 31 2015, maybe sooner. Then there will be an evaluation process and we can hope that the UNESCO Committee will issue its final decision in the summer of 2016,“ explained Lovrenović, reminding that the entire project started by signing the Letter of Intent on November 2 2009.

Representatives of the four countries which are participating in the joint project of nomination of stećci medieval tombstones for the UNESCO World Heritage List are BiH, Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro with 30 necropoleis, of which 22 are in BiH.
