The digital transformation of society brings numerous challenges, and one of the key ones is ensuring the assumptions for strengthening the security of cyberspace, it was pointed out today ahead of the conference entitled “Building cyber security in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, which is being held in Sarajevo.

The conference, which gathered representatives of BiH state and entity institutions, institutions of Montenegro and Serbia, as well as representatives of the academic community and the private sector, marks the beginning of the implementation of the project under the same name financed by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany and implemented by UNDP in BiH.

Ambassador of Germany in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Thomas Fitschen, welcomed the implementation of the project and expressed satisfaction that his country can organize a conference in partnership with UNDP, where opportunities for building cyber security in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Western Balkan region will be discussed.

He also recalled the Summit in Berlin, that is, the meeting of foreign ministers where, among other things, cyber security was discussed, and it was noted that cyber security in the Western Balkans would contribute to that segment of security in the whole of Europe, as well as the European Union.

“This is why cyber security in the Western Balkans must be strengthened based on all the decisions made at that meeting and summit,” Ambassador Fitschen said in a statement to the media.

The Resident Representative of UNDP in BiH, Steliana Nedera, pointed out the importance of building cyber security/resilience in BiH and beyond, expressing her gratitude to the German government for supporting the mentioned project.

She underlined the importance of digital transformation in the modern world and in the context of all human development goals, warning, at the same time, that digital growth and development bring certain risks and threats, which can affect not only government institutions, but also the private sector.

“Because of this, it is very important to discuss the topics we have planned for today, which is how to fight the mentioned threats most effectively,” said Nedera, emphasizing the importance of preventing certain risks and effective protection of cyberspace.

Assistant Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina Mladen Mrkaja expressed his gratitude to the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, which enabled the implementation of the mentioned project, and to UNDP as the implementer in Bosnia and Herzegovina, stressing that it is the right time for a stronger engagement in terms of strengthening cyber security, and given that institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina are increasingly the target of cyber attacks, Fena news agency reports.
