Construction of the Heating System Kakanj-Sarajevo to begin

TE Kakanj panoramio.comThe forgotten project of the construction of the heating system which would deliver steam for heating of radiators in Sarajevo from the Thermal power plant Kakanj (TE Kakanj) was brought to life again.

Creation of the study based on which the system would be constructed is in progress. Everyone agrees in one: the project would certainly be profitable and property and legal rights would pose the only problem for the final construction. Technical and financial study for this mega construction project is expected in March next year.

Construction of the heating system has been talked about for a while, but the idea was never realized. However, it is clear that the thermal power plant in Kakanj has the capacity to heat the entire Sarajevo basin. This was also confirmed in the TE Kakanj.

Hasan Čaušević, the acting Director of the TE Kakanj, said that they in the TE Kakanj aspire for this project since the project itself and the idea are over 30 years old. According to this, the TE Kakanj has the capacities and possibilities to heat Sarajevo and all cities on the way to Sarajevo from this thermal power plant.

The Kakanj basin is among the most abundant deposits of high-quality coal in the entire B&H. Around 1.2 million tons of coal are burned in three separate blocks of the TE Kakanj annually, and the total supplies of coal are estimated to over 250 million tons.

Project justification is best demonstrated by the study of B&H companies headed by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. However, what is certain is that the TE Kakanj would raise the level of efficiency of the thermal blocks from 30% to 60 %, and the revenues of Elektroprivreda BiH would increase as well.
