Consumer Basket for May amounts to 2.748 BAM

The trade union consumer basket calculated by the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) for the month of May 2023 is 2.748.60 BAM.

The average salary paid in the Federation of BiH (FBiH) for the month of March 2023 was 1.265 BAM (the latest data published by the Federal Bureau of Statistics).

The minimum wage according to the Decision of the FBiH Government is 596.00 BAM. The coverage of the trade union consumer basket by the average salary is 46.02%. The coverage of the trade union consumer basket by the minimum wage is 21.68%.

When creating the Trade Union Consumer Basket, the average salary paid in the FBiH was taken into account, as well as the minimum living expenses of a four-member family consisting of two adults and two children, one of whom is in high school and the other in elementary school. The consumer basket itself consists of the following categories (next to the name is the percentage of participation of the individual category in the union consumer basket): food – 42.51%, housing, and communal services – 14.19%, hygiene, and health maintenance – 8.81%, education, and culture – 11.28%, clothing, and footwear – 10.91%, transportation – 5.02%, household maintenance – 7.28%.

In the food category, prices from 3 shopping centers were used for 86 items. When it comes to hygiene and health maintenance, costs for ten items were counted, and for housing and communal services, costs for six items were included.
