Today, the Croatian Parliament adopted the Law on Foreigners, which opens the possibility of introducing special visas for professional drivers from the countries of the region, which should solve the long-standing problem of limited stay in the Schengen zone for drivers working in international traffic.
Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina Edin Forto said that this is important news for thousands of professional drivers from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region who cross borders every day due to the nature of their work.
“Our drivers are not traveling as tourists, but rather doing their job, without which supply chains and the transport of goods across Europe cannot function. That is why it was important to find a solution that understands the specifics of their job and allows them to work without constant fear of the expiration of the permitted days of stay,” said the Minister.
The Ministry of Communications and Transport of BiH has intensively coordinated activities on this issue in recent months, together with domestic carriers and competent institutions, with continuous communication and meetings with representatives of the competent ministries of the Republic of Croatia, in order to find a sustainable solution for professional drivers from BiH.
“I hope that the Law will be implemented in the coming weeks, not months, because drivers from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the entire region have been waiting for a solution for too long,” said Minister Forto.
