Continuous dialogue between the judiciary and the media is necessary

Continuous dialogue between the judiciary and the media is necessary in order to strengthen trust and achieve a better understanding of the work of both professions, which represents the path to better information for the public about the work of the judiciary.

The one-day training sessions enabled the representatives of courts, prosecutor’s offices, and the media to teach each other about the specifics that are essential for the work of both professions, which should result in a better understanding of the circumstances faced by the judiciary, on the one hand, and the needs of journalists, on the other hand, when providing accurate and timely information about the work of judicial institutions to the public of BiH.

“The OSCE Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina welcomes the valuable steps taken by the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council by creating a new and comprehensive Communication Strategy and the accompanying Action Plan,” said Željka Šulc, spokeswoman for the OSCE Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

She added that “complementing each other, the judiciary and the media must ensure that the public is adequately informed about the processing of cases, including sensitive and complex cases that may have an impact on stability and progress in BiH, such as cases concerning organized crime, corruption and war crimes”.

The representatives of the media welcomed the organization of training and pointed out that such events should be organized more often because they enable both sides to discuss the difficulties they face when informing the public about the work of the judiciary and represent an opportunity to advise each other on how to overcome difficulties and remove them.
