Representatives of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the company “Smartmatik” signed today a contract for the procurement of a system for biometric voter identification and ballot scanning at polling stations, with a total value of 74,527,455 BAM.

The contract was signed by the President of the CEC of BiH, Jovan Kalaba, and Frans Gunink, director of the company “Smartmatik”, the leader of the group of bidders, the CEC announced on Monday evening.

The subject of the contract is the procurement of a system for biometric voter identification and ballot scanning at polling stations, including all necessary components – equipment, software, consumables, technical support, printing of ballots, storage and distribution to the competent electoral authorities.

The implementation of the contract will take place in three phases, the first of which is the delivery of electronic equipment and education of equipment users, the second relates to transport services, and the third to services for printing and packaging of ballots.

The company “Smartmatik” was awarded the contract to procure election technology, with its bid being 17 million BAM more expensive than the second-ranked “Planet Soft”.

Three appeals were filed against the decision of the CEC of BiH to select the company “Smartmatik”, and after the appeal of the company “Planet Soft” was rejected, its owner Vedran Jarić announced the initiation of an administrative dispute before the Court of BiH in order to issue a temporary measure, Srna writes.
