Coverage of the Consumer Basket by the minimum wage is 21 Percent

The trade union consumer basket calculated by the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Bosnia and Herzegovina (SSSBiH) for February this year amounts to 2,898.90 BAM.

The average salary paid in the Federation of BiH for December 2023 was 1,296.00 BAM (the latest data published by the Federal Bureau of Statistics). The minimum wage according to the Decision of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is 619.00 BAM. Coverage of the union consumer basket by the average salary is 44.71 percent. Coverage of the Trade Union Consumer Basket by the minimum wage is 21.35 percent.

When creating the Trade Union Consumer Basket, the average salary paid in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina was taken into account, as well as the minimum living expenses of a four-member family consisting of two adults and two children, one of whom is in high school and the other in elementary school.

The consumer basket consists of: food (44.66 percent participation in the union consumer basket), housing and communal services (13.52 percent), hygiene and health maintenance (9.46 percent), education and culture (10.35 percent), clothing and footwear (10.35 percent), transportation (4.76 percent), and household maintenance (6.9 percent participation in the union consumer basket).

In the food category, prices from three shopping centers were used for 86 items. When it comes to hygiene and health maintenance, the costs for ten items were counted, and for housing and communal services, the costs for six items, announced the Information Service of the SSSBiH.
