After the application of BiH for membership in the EU was accepted at yesterday’s session of the General Affairs Council of the European Union, member of the BiH Presidency Dragan Čović thanked the High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security of the EU Federica Mogherini and the Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn.
“Respected High Representative Mogherini and Commissioner Hahn,
I address you in relation to the published conclusions of the European Council of the EU, which evaluated the progress achieved by BiH on its European path. To my great joy, those conclusions once again confirmed the European perspective of BiH as the only acceptable perspective for all its nations and citizens. It is absolutely certain that precisely the credible application for membership, along with everything that preceded it, undoubtedly launched and directed Bosnia and Herzegovina towards full membership in the EU.
It is an indisputable fact that precisely you played the irreplaceable role in this process. Let me thank you once again for understanding, support, and the energy that you provided and that you keep providing in order to help us on our journey of integration. Today’s success of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the result of joint cooperation, grounded on mutual understanding and trust through our intense communication. I am convinced that only in this way we can move forward, achieve new successes for brighter, European future of BiH.
European future is the only possible future of our homeland, Bosnia and Herzegovina. I firmly believe that all nations and citizens of BiH want to be a part of that order. It is on us, as well as on other political representatives of all constituent nations in our multinational country, to bring this idea to its end.
I hope you will keep providing us your selfless support. That is an important and irreplaceable encouragement for all us in BiH, a motive for us to be persistent with the reforms that are yet to come.
