Covic: We should be proud of all the Good that came from the Croatian Republic of Herceg-Bosna

On Monday, the 30th anniversary of the founding of the former Croatian Republic of Herceg-Bosna was marked in Mostar with the laying of wreaths and the lighting of candles at the memorial in front of the Croatian Home of Herceg Stjepan Kosača and the “Forgery of History” round table.

“Today is a very significant day, with this act we stood up for the protection of our Croatian people and Bosnia and Herzegovina, because we understood that no one else would organize and oppose the attack on BiH, endangering life and property. When Ravno was attacked in 1991, everything was burned and scattered, the messages were clear: we organized through the Croatian community of Herceg-Bosna, and later through the Croatian Republic of Herceg-Bosna,” said the president of the Croatian National Assembly of BiH (HNS BiH) and the HDZ of BiH on that occasion Dragan Covic.

Čović pointed out that all the competences and institutions of HRHB are a component of today’s BiH.

“What makes me happy is that we managed to implement all the institutions of the legislative, executive and judicial authorities of HRHB as a component of today’s Dayton BiH, in our homeland. The fact is that where we were not organized, the Croatian people suffered and were dispersed. We can be grateful to every individual who had wisdom and courage at that time and who visionarily recognized the moment to protect their people. The significance of HRHB will be researched by historians and scientists for a long time, and as far as politics is concerned, we should credibly promote it and be proud of all the good which came from the HRHB,” Čović said.

The President of the Main Council of the Croatian Community of Herceg-Bosna (HZHB) Ivo Čolak briefly reflected on the historical circumstances, recalling that the Croatian Community of Herceg-Bosna was founded on November 18, 1991, and on this day, two years later, the Croatian Republic of Herceg-Bosna was founded.

“HRHB, which is a co-signatory of the Washington Agreement, existed after the establishment of the Federation and after the adoption of the FBiH Constitution in 1994, until its self-abolition in 1996. Today, we are marking the jubilee 30th anniversary with this round table “Forgery of history”, and after the commemoration continues in the afternoon in Grude. The main message of the gathering and commemoration is to leave it to the young generations,” said Čolak.

The commemoration of the 30th anniversary continues in the afternoon in Grude, where a solemn parade, a tribute at the grave of Mate Boban, and a mass at 5 p.m. are planned, Fena news agency reports.
