Canton Sarajevo is waiting for a new Prime Minister: Who will get the Position?

There is still no official confirmation of who will be the new president of the Canton Sarajevo (CS) Government.

”The coalition partners decided, unanimously, to wait for what will happen in the Federation in order to know which political subjects participate in CS. At the moment, the Trojka, SDP, People and Justice, and Our party govern the CS. There is an option for the Party for Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) to govern as well,” says the general secretary of Our party, Nihad Uk.

And the first name that was mentioned for the Prime Minister of CS was from the Party for BiH, more precisely, the name of the leader of this party, Semir Efendic. Apart from him, other names have been speculated for days, namely Elvedin Okeric, Drasko Acimovic, Lejla Brcic, Adnan Steta, Jasminko Halilovic. Everyone wants their own people in the prime minister’s chair, but Our Party claims that this position belongs to them. The former Minister of Justice in the Government of CS, Lejla Brcic, was mentioned as a candidate from this party. She claims that she refused.

”Yes, it is true that there were certain talks and offers, as well as during the appointment of the Government in 2021. My answer was the same as then. Bearing in mind the financial crisis that the whole world, including us, is entering, and especially if we look at the CS through the prism of the reduction of funds due to the change in weights, I am of the opinion that the position of prime minister should be held by someone whose narrower profession and professional knowledge are related to the economic profession,” Brcic stated.

Although Drasko Acimovic has been talked about the most in recent days, some members of People and Justice claim that he is not a name that is being discussed, while Acimovic himself said that he would do well in this position.

”I think that a manager should be in that position, at the service of the citizens, not a politician. That’s why I would accept such a candidacy if that principle is accepted because if I could run a company with 35.000 workers in 11 countries, I think I could also run a city,” Acimovic said.

While some speculate, others clearly answer.

”I don’t know. At this moment, it hasn’t come up to be discussed yet. I was betting on Mr. Forto. I think it would be great if he remained prime minister because he started a lot of things that need to be finished,” said Damir Marjanovic from the movement For new generations.
