Data on Millionaires is kept Secret in BiH

According to the Central Bank of Montenegro, 89 citizens in Montenegro have more than one million euros in their commercial bank accounts.

“I think these are mostly people who acquired their money either legally, through sales, or inheritance, and they keep their money in banks. We are experiencing a trend of inflation, and we must be aware of that as well. By keeping money in banks, its value decreases, so I think that 89 is a relatively small number of millionaires in Montenegro,” explained financial consultant Stevan Gajevic.

On the other hand, the population of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) holds more than 15 billion BAM in banks, but the number of individuals with one million or more BAM in their accounts remains unknown. An inquiry sent to the entity banking agencies did not yield specific answers – the Banking Agency of the Federation of BiH (FBiH) stated that they do not possess the requested data, while commercial banks refused to disclose this information, citing the confidentiality of the bank-client relationship.

It is also impossible to obtain data on the number of millionaires in Serbia based on the money they hold in banks, as official statistics record only accounts with deposits exceeding 500.000 euros.

“As of the end of October 2023, the number of accounts in this category was 897. These accounts collectively held a total of 1.17 billion euros. That represents about 8.3 percent of total foreign currency savings, with an average deposit per account in this category amounting to approximately 1.3 million euros,” the National Bank of Serbia stated.
