Center for Investigative Journalism (CIN) published data on real estate, vehicles and companies, as well as on the type and source of income that all candidates for ministerial and deputy posts in the Council of Ministers of BiH must forward to the State Investigation and Protection Agency for a check-up.
This obligation is prescribed by the Law on the Council of Ministers of BiH, and failure to fill certain rubrics in the statement can be characterized as a criminal offense, entailing a financial penalty or three-year long prison sentence.
These statements are just a part of a unique database on the property of 180 politicians from BiH. Journalists of CIN regularly update this database with new information in order to present accurate data on the property and financial interests of politicians and their work to the citizens. Apart from those information, the database also contains information about trial proceedings and personal and professional biographies.
The data implies that numerous politicians became owners of expensive real estate and high bank accounts after just several years political career.
The website of CIN now also provides information on new officials. Minister for Human Rights and Refugees of BiH Sebiha Borovac was the mayor of Sarajevo, then coordinator for public administration reform within the Cabinet of the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH. Her monthly income amounted to around 3.800 BAM. She has been a member of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) since 1992.
Minister of Security of BiH Dragan Mektić, a member of the Serb Democratic Party (SDS), was the deputy minister of security of BiH between 2003 and 2006. After that, he became the director of national Service for Foreigners’ Affairs, with monthly income of around 4.000 BAM.
Minister of Justice of BiH Josip Grubeša has been working as a professor at the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Mostar, where he received 1.150 BAM per month. He has been a member of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) BiH since 2001.
Until his appointment, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH Josip Brkić did two jobs, earning around 6.900 BAM every month. He was the director of the Sarajevo Company “Talgo BH” Ltd. and the Secretary General of the University “Hercegovina”, whose majority owner is his father Milenko. He has been a member of HDZ BiH since 2003.
Deputy Minister of Civil Affairs of BiH Đorđe Milićević was the financial director of “Vitinka” Kozluk, with monthly income amounting to 2.300 BAM. He stated he does not own no real estate or vehicles. He has been a member of the party National Democratic Movement (NDP) since 2013.
Deputy Minister of Justice of BiH Nezir Pivić is still working at the Faculty of Law in Zenica. He stated he had been receiving 340 BAM per month from the Parliament of FBiH. He is not a member of any party.
Deputy Minister of Communications and Transportation of BiH Saša Dalipagić worked as an inspector for roads in the Ministry of Transportation and Communications of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton with a monthly wage of 1.000 BAM. He is also not a member of any party.
