tekkeThe tenth day of Muharram, the first month in the Islamic calendar, is marked as Day of Ashura which begins with sunset. The value of the month of Muharram and especially the tenth day of the month is great.

It is said that the Prophet Muhammad p.b.u.h. called this month “Sehrullahi el Muharem – Allah’s month Muharram” and this is the best moth for fasting after Ramadan and the Day of Ashura.

This is the month of the triumph of believers, the strengthening of imam (belief) and expressing gratitude to Allah.

The respect towards this month is reflected in fasting because Prophet Muhammad p.b.u.h. said that “Fasting during Ashura is the cradle of forgiveness for sins done in the previous year”.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Day of Ashura is mostly marked in tekkes and mosques but the traditional is to hold the central ceremony in Haji-Sinan’s tekke in Sarajevo.

Ashura presents the meal which Prophet Noah p.b.u.h. ate after the Great Flood made from foods which he collected in the Arc.
